Overview:
An exciting opportunity has become available for a highly motivated Principal Power Electronics Engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of advanced power electronics and magnetics systems. This is a senior technical role suited for an engineer with a strong background in delivering high-performance solutions across at least two sectors, such as automotive, aerospace, defence, marine, or clean energy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end design and development of power electronics and magnetics systems, including inverters, OBCs, DC/DC, and AC/DC converters.
- Design digital and mixed-signal control and interface circuits for power electronic applications.
- Ensure systems are compliant with EMC requirements through effective noise attenuation and design strategies.
- Develop and validate designs in simulation environments using industry-standard tools.
- Lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams and manage technical deliverables across complex projects.
- Serve as a key technical point of contact for customers, building and maintaining collaborative relationships.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical strategy and innovation.
Essential Requirements:
- Extensive experience developing power electronics and magnetics for at least two of the following sectors: automotive, aerospace, off-highway, commercial vehicle, defence, clean energy, or marine.
- Proven experience in the design of digital and mixed-signal control circuits.
- Strong understanding and practical experience in EMC design and electrical noise mitigation.
- Proficiency in simulation tools for power electronics and magnetics system development.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and lead multi-person engineering projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for customer engagement.
- A degree or higher in electrical/electronic engineering, power electronics, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Experience with digital motor control techniques for various motor types (IPM, SPM, ASM, SR) including FOC, field weakening, overmodulation, and NVH optimisation.
- Hands-on experience developing and validating power electronics hardware in lab, rig, and real-world environments.
- Competence in managing PCB layout, mechanical design integration, and the full build process of power systems.
- Knowledge of thermal and fluid simulation for effective thermal management in power electronics systems.
- Safety training in the use of high-voltage, high-power test and development equipment.
