Senior FPGA Engineer
Location: Commutable from Brighton, Crawley, Chichester, or Portsmouth
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior FPGA Engineer to join an established engineering team and take technical ownership of HDL architecture for next-generation power supply platforms. This role offers a mix of hands-on FPGA design and technical leadership, working closely with systems, hardware, and software teams across the full product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to all phases of the FPGA development lifecycle, including requirements capture, architecture, design, implementation, integration, verification, and test.
- Define and own advanced digital and FPGA architectures for complex power supply and embedded systems.
- Apply sound engineering principles to develop robust, scalable, and high-performance digital designs.
- Collaborate with Systems Engineers and Program Management to decompose and translate system-level requirements into FPGA solutions.
- Conduct and participate in design and peer reviews, providing technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, and manufacturing) to define interfaces and overall system performance.
- Support design for manufacture (DFM), considering supply-chain constraints and common manufacturing methods.
- Provide engineering support to safety, quality, and customer-facing teams as required.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Strong FPGA development experience using VHDL (preferred) or Verilog.
- 8+ years’ experience in one or more of the following:
- FPGA / HDL design
- Digital design simulation and verification
- Research and development environments
- Proven experience developing:
- Reusable, maintainable, and testable HDL architectures
- Self-checking test benches and verification frameworks
- Solid understanding of digital circuit operation, debugging, and failure analysis.
- Experience with high-speed digital electronics, FPGA-based systems, and embedded processor integration.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based source control.
- Exposure to regulated or safety-critical environments is a plus.
