Ampere Recruitment is partnering with a leading UK-based power electronics innovator a subsidiary of one of the world's foremost propulsion and control systems groups to find a Senior Power Electronics Engineer with a strong focus on AI-driven design methodologies.
This is a genuinely exciting role for an engineer who wants to sit at the intersection of advanced power electronics and the emerging application of AI/generative AI across the full converter design process.
The Role
You'll take ownership of system-level design, simulation, and optimisation of power electronics converters, from initial requirements analysis through to prototype build, integration, and testing. A defining feature of this position is the organisation's commitment to embedding AI tools systematically into every stage of the engineering workflow — making this a forward-looking opportunity for engineers who are already exploring that space.
Key Responsibilities

- Research emerging converter technologies and market trends
- Manage component sourcing, procurement, and prototyping coordination
- System integration testing — test programming, results collation, and review
- Define sub-component technical specifications and interfaces
- Participate in technical route planning and contribute to R&D strategy
- Engage in technical exchanges with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders
What We're Looking For
- Degree in power electronics or related discipline with 5+ years' experience, or PhD with 3+ years
- Demonstrable interest or experience in applying AI/generative AI to power electronics design workflows — this is a priority
- Strong hands-on background with IGBT or SiC MOSFET-based converters at 1200V+
- Experience across AC/DC, DC/AC, and DC/DC topologies with associated control strategies
- Multi-level converter development experience (3-level, 5-level or higher)
- Proficiency in loss analysis, efficiency mapping, and thermal simulation
- Control loop design, simulation, and testing
