Job Description

Junior Power Supply Design Engineer

Location: Dublin, Ireland (Hybrid / On-site)

The Role

Our client is looking for a Junior Power Supply Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team working on the design and development of AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience across the full power-electronics development lifecycle, supported by senior engineers and technical mentors.

You will contribute to the design, simulation, prototyping, and testing of efficient, reliable power solutions used in a range of industrial, medical, automotive, or consumer applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies
  • Assist with schematic capture, component selection, and basic magnetics design
  • Perform circuit simulation using tools such as SPICE, LTspice, or PLECS
  • Support PCB layout reviews in collaboration with layout engineers
  • Help with prototype bring-up, testing, and debugging in the lab
  • Carry out electrical measurements including efficiency, thermal, EMI, and transient testing
  • Assist with documentation, test reports, and design reviews
  • Work closely with senior engineers to improve design robustness, efficiency, and reliability
  • Comply with relevant safety and regulatory standards (e.g. IEC, UL, CE)

Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
  • Basic understanding of power electronics fundamentals (SMPS topologies, MOSFETs, diodes, magnetics)
  • Familiarity with AC/DC or DC/DC converter concepts
  • Exposure to simulation tools (SPICE-based tools preferred)
  • Basic lab experience with oscilloscopes, power analysers, and electronic loads
  • Willingness to learn and develop within a hands-on engineering environment
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Internship, placement year, or thesis focused on power electronics or power supplies
  • Exposure to EMI/EMC testing or thermal design
  • Familiarity with PCB design tools (Altium, OrCAD, KiCad, etc.)
  • Knowledge of wide-bandgap devices (SiC or GaN)

What’s On Offer

  • Competitive graduate / junior-level salary
  • Structured training and mentorship from experienced power-electronics engineers
  • Hands-on exposure to real-world power supply designs
  • Clear progression path into Power Electronics Design Engineer roles
