Job Description

Power Supply Design Engineer

Southern Ireland

The opportunity

Ampere Recruitment is partnering exclusively with a leading power electronics manufacturer to find a Power Supply Design Engineer based in Southern Ireland. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll own meaningful parts of the design cycle from concept through to production in a high-reliability environment where precision and technical rigour genuinely matter.

If you've built your career designing AC/DC or DC/DC power supplies and want to join a team that takes engineering seriously, this is worth a conversation.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing, analysing, and refining power supply circuits and subsystems to meet performance, cost, and quality targets
  • Diagnosing and resolving design issues across reliability, manufacturability, and test yield and driving the corrective actions through to completion
  • Taking ownership of technical deliverables on assigned programmes, including documentation and ECO submissions
  • Applying simulation and analysis to validate design concepts before hardware build
  • Working closely with customers and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into robust, producible designs
  • Operating within structured product development processes with rigour and consistency

What we're looking for

  • BEng or MEng in Electronic or Electrical Engineering — a master's degree or PhD in power electronics is a strong plus
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on electronic design experience, ideally in medical devices, aerospace, defence, or another high-reliability sector
  • Solid grasp of AC/DC and DC/DC topologies, magnetics design, and control loop fundamentals
  • Proficiency with simulation tools (SPICE or equivalent), CAD, and bench test equipment
  • Comfortable working independently on routine tasks and with guidance on complex or novel challenges
  • Strong written and verbal communication — you can hold a technical discussion and document your work clearly

Why this role

  • Work on high-reliability power electronics that directly impact real-world systems
  • Structured engineering environment with well-defined processes ideal for engineers who take quality seriously
  • Exposure to both domestic and international projects with travel opportunities
  • A genuinely technical team where your design decisions carry weight
