Job Description

Power Electronics Engineer – Hardware & VHDL (50/50 Split)

Location: Norway
Employment Type: Permanent

Ampere Recruitment is supporting a cutting-edge engineering client in their search for a Power Electronics Engineer with a unique blend of skills in both hardware design and VHDL development. This role offers a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of power electronics and FPGA-based digital design, contributing to innovative systems across sectors such as renewable energy, automotive, aerospace, and industrial automation.

The Role:

The successful candidate will split their time equally between:

  • Designing and developing high-performance power electronics hardware, including inverters and DC/DC converters.
  • Writing and testing VHDL code for FPGAs, enabling precise control and signal processing in power systems.

This role involves full lifecycle development, from schematic and PCB design through to firmware integration, lab testing, and system validation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hardware design of analog and digital circuits for power electronics systems.
  • Development of VHDL code for FPGA-based control and monitoring.
  • Simulation and verification of both hardware and firmware designs.
  • Testing and debugging in the lab using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power equipment.
  • Support for EMC testing and adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across hardware, software, and systems engineering.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong experience in power electronics design – SMPS, inverters, motor control, etc.
  • Proven ability in VHDL coding and FPGA development.
  • Proficiency with design and simulation tools (e.g., Altium Designer, ModelSim, LTspice).
  • Confident in lab-based testing, debugging, and prototype validation.

Desirable Skills:

  • Exposure to high-voltage or high-power systems.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC design practices and compliance testing.
  • Experience with modelling tools like MATLAB/Simulink or PLECS.

What’s on Offer:

  • An opportunity to work on technically challenging and rewarding projects.
  • A collaborative engineering environment with a focus on innovation.
  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • Clear pathways for personal and technical development.
