Job Description
Staff Power Applications Engineer – 800V HVDC Modules
Permanent | USA | Power Semiconductors
Ampere Recruitment is partnering with a leading power semiconductor business a globally recognised designer and supplier of power semiconductors including MOSFETs, IGBTs, GaN/SiC, and Digital Power ICs to appoint a Staff Power Applications Engineer focused on 800V HVDC power module development.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who thrives at the intersection of high-voltage circuit design, wide bandgap devices, and system-level integration.
You will join a cross-functional team developing power electronic modules for 800V HVDC applications. Working across the full design cycle — from schematic capture and PCB layout through to prototype build, test, and validation — you’ll play a central part in bringing next-generation power conversion hardware to market.
- Design and develop power electronic modules for 800V HVDC applications, including schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to meet performance, thermal, and cost targets.
- Select components for high-voltage circuits with a focus on efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Build and validate prototypes, performing hands-on testing and troubleshooting in the lab.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- M.S. in Electrical Engineering (Ph.D. preferred).
- Strong knowledge of power conversion topologies, power devices, magnetics, and control loop design.
- Hands-on prototype development experience in high-voltage DC/DC converters operating at 500kHz–1MHz.
- Familiarity with Si and wide bandgap (GaN/SiC) device technologies.
- Proficient in simulation tools: Matlab/Simulink, SIMetrix, PSpice/LTspice, or Ansys.
- Comfortable with standard lab equipment: oscilloscopes, function generators, and power analysers.
Desirable
- Experience with 800V HVDC system architectures.
- Background in thermal management for high-power modules.
