Power Electronics Engineer

Ampere Recruitment is working exclusively with a high-growth, IP-led power electronics business to find a talented Power Electronics Engineer for a pivotal role within their engineering team.
The Role
This is a hands-on, multidisciplinary position at the heart of a small, high-calibre team translating cutting-edge power electronics IP into robust, manufacturable products. Suited to engineers who thrive in fast-paced environments, the role spans architecture through to testing and customer deployment with direct influence over technical decisions, product direction, and future IP development.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing, building, testing and validating advanced power conversion systems
- Contributing to major projects spanning electrical, mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing disciplines
- Taking ownership of subsystems and contributing to overall system architecture
- Developing and executing rigorous test plans covering validation, reliability, and compliance (EMC, thermal, lifetime testing)
- Collaborating with customers and partners to integrate technology into real-world applications
- Contributing to the generation and protection of intellectual property
- Keeping pace with the latest developments in power electronics and adjacent technologies
What We're Looking For
Essential
- MEng (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related discipline
- 2+ years of relevant industry experience
- Demonstrable track record in technical design, simulation, and experimental validation across analogue and digital electronic systems
- Proficiency in electronic design and PCB layout, including rapid prototyping and design iteration
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a willingness to take ownership and move quickly
Desirable
- Hands-on experience designing, building, and testing power electronic circuits and systems
- Experience with electrical systems operating above 600VDC
- Microcontroller software experience relevant to power electronics control (e.g. bare-metal C at loop frequencies above 10kHz)
- Mechanical design skills and familiarity with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Fusion360
- Exposure to compliance and certification processes (EMC, safety standards)
