Cork, Ireland

We are seeking an experienced Lead Power Electronics Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team in Cork. This is a key technical leadership role focused on the design and development of advanced DC/DC and AC/DC power supplies for high-reliability applications across demanding environments.

You will play a central role in driving innovation, leading a small team of engineers, and delivering robust, high-performance power conversion solutions from concept through to production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of DC/DC and AC/DC power supplies, from initial concept through to production release
  • Take ownership of high-reliability designs, ensuring performance, efficiency, and robustness in demanding applications
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a small team of power electronics engineers
  • Drive architecture decisions, including topology selection (e.g. Flyback, LLC, Full-Bridge, PFC)
  • Conduct design reviews, ensuring best practices in power electronics design and development
  • Oversee simulation and modelling using tools such as SPICE, PLECS, or MATLAB/Simulink
  • Lead debugging, testing, and validation, including thermal, EMI/EMC, and reliability testing
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical, systems, and manufacturing
  • Support design for manufacture (DFM) and ensure smooth transition to production
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and safety regulations

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in power electronics design, with a strong focus on DC/DC and AC/DC converters
  • Strong understanding of key topologies such as Buck, Boost, Flyback, LLC, and Full-Bridge
  • Experience designing for high-reliability applications (e.g. industrial, aerospace, medical, defence, or similar)
  • Solid knowledge of analogue circuit design, control loops, and compensation techniques
  • Hands-on experience with power semiconductor devices (MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC/GaN desirable)
  • Experience with simulation tools such as SPICE, PLECS, Simetrix, or MATLAB/Simulink
  • Strong understanding of EMI/EMC mitigation, magnetics design, and thermal management
  • Experience with PCB design and layout for power electronics
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor engineers

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with high-voltage or high-power systems
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. IEC, UL)
  • Previous experience in a technical leadership or lead role
  • Exposure to high-frequency SMPS design

Why Join?

  • Opportunity to take a lead role in cutting-edge power electronics development
  • Work on high-reliability, mission-critical applications
  • Join a collaborative and technically strong engineering environment
  • Clear scope for technical ownership and career progression
