R&D Power Electronics Engineer
About the Role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and creative R&D Engineer with expertise in Power Electronics to join our client's team. In this role, you'll be crucial in designing, modelling, and testing advanced topologies and control methods for high-frequency power converters, particularly those used in industrial inductive applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Power Converter Innovation
- Design, model, and prototype advanced power converter topologies, prioritising reliability and efficiency.
Reliability Assurance
- Conduct comprehensive reliability assessments of semiconductor modules to ensure sustained operational stability.
Knowledge Transfer
- Document findings and conduct training sessions, sharing knowledge effectively within the team.
Educational Background
- Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related fields.
Core Skills
- Strong proficiency in areas including:

- SiC transistor inverters
- GaN HEMT inverters
- Resonant converters
- Power converter control and estimation algorithms
- Digital current control implementation
Technical Expertise
- Skilled in power converter modelling and simulation tools, such as MATLAB Simulink, Simba, Qorvo, Saber, or Plecs.
Hands-on Prototyping
- Proven experience in constructing and testing power converter prototypes.
Team Collaboration
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with experience working in diverse, international teams.
Preferred Skills
Experience in one or more of the following is a bonus:
- VHDL/Verilog and FPGA design
- ARM processor programming with C/C++
- Switch-Mode Power Supply (SMPS) design
- PCB design and analog electronics
- Knowledge of material properties for insulation, coating, transformer cores, and high-frequency EMC/EMI standards and testing for kW-level converters.
