Junior Power Supply Design Engineer
Location: Dublin, Ireland (Hybrid / On-site)
The Role
Our client is looking for a Junior Power Supply Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team working on the design and development of AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience across the full power-electronics development lifecycle, supported by senior engineers and technical mentors.
You will contribute to the design, simulation, prototyping, and testing of efficient, reliable power solutions used in a range of industrial, medical, automotive, or consumer applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and development of AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies
- Assist with schematic capture, component selection, and basic magnetics design
- Perform circuit simulation using tools such as SPICE, LTspice, or PLECS
- Support PCB layout reviews in collaboration with layout engineers
- Help with prototype bring-up, testing, and debugging in the lab
- Carry out electrical measurements including efficiency, thermal, EMI, and transient testing
- Assist with documentation, test reports, and design reviews
- Work closely with senior engineers to improve design robustness, efficiency, and reliability
- Comply with relevant safety and regulatory standards (e.g. IEC, UL, CE)
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
- Basic understanding of power electronics fundamentals (SMPS topologies, MOSFETs, diodes, magnetics)
- Familiarity with AC/DC or DC/DC converter concepts
- Exposure to simulation tools (SPICE-based tools preferred)
- Basic lab experience with oscilloscopes, power analysers, and electronic loads
- Willingness to learn and develop within a hands-on engineering environment
- Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Internship, placement year, or thesis focused on power electronics or power supplies
- Exposure to EMI/EMC testing or thermal design
- Familiarity with PCB design tools (Altium, OrCAD, KiCad, etc.)
- Knowledge of wide-bandgap devices (SiC or GaN)
