Senior Power Supply Design Engineer

We seek a highly skilled and experienced Senior Power Supply Design Engineer to join our clients dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing high-performance DC/DC and AC/DC power supplies up to 1kW. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in power electronics and a proven track record of successful power supply designs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and Development:
  • Lead the design and development of DC/DC and AC/DC power supply system’s up to 1kW.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics, PCB layouts, and BOMs.
  • Develop innovative solutions to meet performance, efficiency, and cost targets.
• Prototyping and Testing:
  • Build and test prototypes to verify design performance and reliability.
  • Perform detailed design verification testing, including thermal analysis, EMI/EMC testing, and regulatory compliance.
• Technical Leadership:
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of power supply designs into final products.
• Documentation and Compliance:
  • Prepare and maintain detailed design documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and user manuals.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and safety regulations.
• Project Management:
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery of high-quality designs.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to optimize design for manufacturability.

Qualifications:

• Education:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience:
  • 8+ years of experience in power supply design, focusing on DC/DC and AC/DC converters.
  • Proven track record of designing power supplies up to 1kW.
• Technical Skills:
  • Deep understanding of power electronics, magnetics, and thermal management.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools such as SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB design software (e.g., Altium, Eagle, OrCAD).
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., UL, IEC, CE).
• Soft Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with digital control of power supplies.
• Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments.

Lead Power Electronics Engineer

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Lead Power Electronics Engineer who will join an established company at the forefront of power supply design technology.

The Lead Power Electronics Engineer will drive the development of cutting-edge power conversion systems. You will take ownership of high-efficiency designs for applications such as inverters and DC/DC converters, leading technical teams from concept to deployment.

As the technical authority in power electronics, you will be instrumental in setting architecture direction, guiding design reviews, mentoring engineers, and ensuring robust performance in real-world environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end development of power electronics systems: requirements capture, simulation, design, prototyping, and validation
• Architect and design power converters using SiC/GaN or silicon technologies (e.g., DC/DC, AC/DC, and DC/AC topologies)
• Collaborate cross-functionally with firmware, mechanical, and systems engineering teams
• Perform detailed analysis, including switching behaviour, thermal performance, EMC, and reliability
• Oversee PCB layout best practices for high-power/high-frequency circuits
• Drive DVT (design verification testing) and troubleshoot prototypes in the lab
• Interface with suppliers for component selection and manufacturing partners for DFM
• Mentor junior engineers and establish engineering best practices

What our client is Looking For

• Degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field
• 8+ years of experience in power electronics design and development
• Strong understanding of various converter topologies and control strategies
• Experience with wide-bandgap semiconductors (SiC/GaN)

Senior Power Electronics Engineer – Gate Drives

I am currently working with a technology company in Birmingham that due to its continued success is looking to add a Senior Power Electronics Engineer focused on Gate Drives to its team of world-class engineers.

About the role

As a Senior Power Electronics Engineer, you will develop start-of-the-art power electronics systems and components for different industries including rail, EV, and renewable energies but this role will be focused on Gate Drives for traction applications.

The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will be responsible for the following:

• Circuit design, simulation, and test verification of Gate Drives and Power semiconductors.
• Design and development of Gate Driver boards.
• Hardware circuit analysis, including FMEDAs, FTAs, diagnostic coverage analysis, DFMEA,

DRBFM reliability analysis, etc.

• Hardware design simulation calculations, including tolerance, worst case, derating, EMC, thermal, simulation, etc. define technical specifications and prepare work reports.

The successful candidates will possess a degree in electronics or electrical engineering with a proven background in the below:

• Gate Driver board debugging and double pulse testing.
• power supply design- Push-Pull, Flyback, and LLC power supplies.
• DC-AC Inverters.
